📰 News we're reading

1. Snoqualmie Valley legislative district maps could change once again (valleyrecord.com) — North Bend and Snoqualmie voters may see their legislative district lines change yet again after the U.S. Supreme Court ordered a new review of Washington's 2024 maps. While the 2026 midterms are unaffected, any redraw could reshape who represents the Snoqualmie Valley in Olympia before the next scheduled redistricting in 2031, especially for residents now voting with Chelan and Wenatchee candidates.

2. North Bend Wastewater Plant Recognized Among State's Top Performers (livingsnoqualmie.com) — North Bend's wastewater treatment plant has been honored by the state Department of Ecology as one of Washington's top-performing facilities, recognizing its strong compliance and operations in 2025. City leaders say recent major upgrades expanded capacity for projects like the Meadowbrook sewer ULID, helping protect the Snoqualmie River and support future growth while keeping essential infrastructure running smoothly for residents.

3. Experienced climber dies in fall near North Bend (newsbreak.com) — A climber in his 30s died Sunday after a 150-foot fall while on a technical route at Stegosaurus Butte, near the Middle Fork Snoqualmie trailhead northeast of North Bend. Emergency crews and search-and-rescue teams responded, but an ER doctor at the scene confirmed the man had died, adding to a string of recent backcountry fatalities across Washington.

4. A story told in metal (tulalipnews.com) — A new Coast Salish metal sculpture at Lake Washington Institute of Technology connects Snoqualmie Pass's Indigenous story to students from communities stretching east toward North Bend and the Cascades. The piece, created by Tulalip artist James Madison, anchors LWTech's new Center for Design while visibly honoring Native culture. For North Bend-area students, it reinforces that local landscapes and stories shape this regional campus.

5. Blue surge could breach Cascades in this Washington race (theolympian.com) — North Bend voters now share the 12th Legislative District with Chelan County, making them key to a tight state House race between Democrat Stacy Willoughby and Republican incumbent Brian Burnett. The article explores how redistricting, affordability concerns, and controversy over a Wenatchee church are energizing both sides. For North Bend residents, the outcome could signal how much influence their exurban community has east of the Cascades.
