Puyallup Police Investigate Homeless Man's Death

Puyallup Police said a man's body was found in a homeless camp after three fires along Riverwalk Trail.

PUYALLUP, WA — Puyallup police are investigating the death of a homeless man as suspicious after his body was found following three fires near Riverwalk Trail Monday night. Officers were called to the trail, off of East Main, after three fires were reported along four blocks within 30 minutes of each other.

Police said two of the fires were in homeless camps, and the third fire was in a group of trash cans on the 700 block of 2nd Avenue Northeast. 911 callers reported several "loud booms," which detectives believe may have been bottles of compressed gas that exploded near where the body was found. Investigators believe the man died as a result of the fire.

Police are still working to determine the full circumstances of Monday night's events and ask anyone with information to call their tip line at 253-770-3343.
