Former State Rep. Enters Renton Mayoral Race
Renton Mayor Denis Law announced at the end of 2018 he would not run for reelection in 2019.

RENTON, WA - A former state lawmaker and Renton school board member will run to replace outgoing Mayor Denis Law in 2019.
Marcie Maxwell registered her campaign in late January, and has already raised close to $20,000 for the race. Maxwell is so far the only other registered candidate in the race for Renton mayor.
Maxwell served as the Legislative District 41 representative from 2009 to 2013, when she stepped down to serve as Gov. Jay Inslee's senior education advisor. Maxwell served on the Renton school board between 2001 and 2009.

In a Dec. 28 Facebook post, Law said he would step down at the end of 2019 after serving three terms.
"I can remember election night in November 2007, when it appeared that I would win the race for this office. And just a couple weeks later, I was sitting in the mayor’s office suddenly responsible for over 700 employees, a $250 million dollar annual budget with about 56,000 citizens to serve," Law wrote in that post.
