Norovirus-Like Outbreak In Renton Sickens 28

King County health officials have traced the outbreak to a Renton restaurant.

RENTON, WA - At least 28 people were sickened by a norovirus-like illness after dining at a Renton Mexican restaurant recently, according to King County health officials.

All the people sickened in the outbreak were from the same group and ate at La Fuente, 14400 Southeast Petrovitsky Road, on Jan. 25. County health officials did not learn of the illnesses until Jan. 29.

Health officials closed La Fuente temporarily, but the restaurant may not be to blame for the outbreak. Health officials say that there was a sick patron at the restaurant on Jan. 25. Norovirus is extremely contagious, and can live on surfaces like doorknobs and tables. If a sick person isn't washing their hands properly, the virus can spread quickly.

La Fuente closed for a deep cleaning, and has discarded all food from before the cleaning. Health officials allowed the restaurant to reopen on Jan. 30 after an inspection.
