FISH Offers Salmon Science Camps for 17th Amazing Year!

STEM science summer camp for ages preK-11 has openings. Campers will learn about salmon, wetland ecology, and environmental stewardship!

Since 2002, the Friends of the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery has been holding STEM-focused summer camps for ages 3-11 on the hatchery grounds. Through these week-long summer sessions, hundreds of local students have forged a closer connection to the world around them through experiments, crafts, games, and comradeship.

We know that lessons absorbed early in life often stick with a person for a lifetime. FISH is concerned about the waterways and salmon habitat that are part of our natural legacy. If we want the salmon to "keep coming home" we need to educate our youth about their importance to the ecology of the region, to our culture, and our commerce. Summer camp is an ideal way to have fun and learn those early lessons at the same time.

Campers will have fun studying all about the salmon life cycle and watershed stewardship as they conduct a water quality and aquatic insect study of Issaquah Creek, learn and use the scientific method, make arts and crafts, play games, hear from experts, listen to Native American legends, and more!

Many of our campers return for a second and third year. Our program coordinator, Pepper Hambrick, is an informal science educator who spent four years at Pacific Science Center. She aims to create fun, educational curricula that challenge young minds to explore their world and the world of salmon.

To learn more about our programs and sign up visit the Camps & Programs page on our website. You'll find registration forms to complete and send in to register. If you have specific questions you can reach Pepper at (425) 392-1118. Here's to a great summer of fun and learning!
