'No Abnormalities' In Cougar That Killed Seattle Man: Necropsy

State officials recently examined the cougar that killed S.J. Brooks along a forest road near North Bend in May.

NORTH BEND, WA - The cougar that killed a Seattle man in the woods near North Bend in May was in good health at the time of the attack and has tested negative for rabies.

The state Department of Fish and Wildlife released the result of a necropsy of the cougar on Monday.

"Dr. Kristin Mansfield, WDFW wildlife veterinarian, said the examination produced no significant findings to indicate why the cougar attacked the bicyclist and a companion on May 19," state officials said in a press release.

On May 19, Isaac Sederbaum and friend S.J. Brooks were bicycling along a forest road when the cougar attacked. Sederbaum was able to escape on his bike. Wildlife officials later found a cougar standing near Brooks' body. The cougar was shot twice and killed. Sederbaum was severely injured by the cougar but survived the attack.

The male cougar was 3-years-old and apparently "lean" for its age - but not abnormally so. You can read the full necropsy here.
