Sammamish High School Football Playoff Blitz: Skyline and Eastlake advance and Eastside Catholic's season comes to an end

In the midst of an afternoon snow storm at Joe Albi Stadium in Spokane, (8-3) took advantage of two Mead fumbles on kickoff returns and the defense shut down the Panther perimeter run game in a 27-17 victory over 10th ranked Mead.

Mead took an early 9-7 lead in the first quarter on a bad Spartan snap going out of the end zone. After retaking the lead at 13-9, Skyline's Peyton Pelluer made a key special teams play that swung the momentum further in the Spartans favor after recovering the opening kickoff of the third quarter.

Max Browne hit Mason Gregory from 11 yards out to stretch the lead to 20-9.

The Panthers would answer quickly within about a minute to cut the lead back to 20-17.

The Spartans would put the exclamation point on the game when Max Browne hit Adan Lopez five minutes later for a 37 yard touchdown pass to cap the scoring at 27-17.

Max Browne was an efficient 12 of 27 for 222 yards and three touchdown passes and no interceptions in the inclement weather conditions.

With the win Skyline will host Central Valley next Saturday at Skyline High School.

In Federal Way, on a wet, windy Saturday night, 's defense and timely playmaking offensively pushed the Wolves (10-1) to a 21-11 victory over previously undefeated, seventh-ranked Federal Way (10-1) at Federal Way Stadium in the First Round of the State 4A Football Playoffs.

The Wolves took the lead in the second quarter on a 1-yard touchdown run by Brian Quick to go up 7-3. Sean Macdonald made a huge game-turning interception late in the second quarter as the Eagles were threatening to retake the lead

Keegan Kemp hit Daniel Grotjahn on a 11 yard touchdown pass capitalizing on another Federal Way interception, putting the game out of reach at 14-3. The Eastlake defense was not going to be stopped as they held D.J. May, the Eagles' senior running back, to 32 yards on the night.

Offensively, Ryan Lewis battled his way for 142 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown in the fourth quarter to cap the Wolves scoring on the night.

Next up for Eastlake is a quarterfinal home game showdown against Eight-ranked Lake Stevens next weekend.

On Friday night, (7-4) saw its season come to an end as they ran into a buzzsaw in Bellevue (11-0, ranked number 13 nationally). The Wolverines beat the Crusaders 42-0 in a 3A Football first round contest at Bellevue High School.

The Wolverines were coming off a penalty-filled preliminary game against Glacier Peak and came out early with their running game, pulling away in the second quarter on a 50 yard John Nguyen touchdown and a five yard touchdown run by Andy Boulware to put the game out of reach at 21-0.

The Bellevue defense was also a difference maker as they held Eastside Catholic quarterback Trey Reynolds to 18 of 29 passing for 90 yards and 48 yards running.

The Wolverines will take on second-ranked Lakes in the State 3A Football Quarterfinals in Lakewood on Friday night. With the loss the Crusaders season under first year Head Coach Jeremy Thielbahr came to an end.
