Ukrainians in Seattle mark 35 years of freedom and fight to preserve it (seattletimes.com) — Ukrainian Americans and allies packed Seattle Center this weekend for Ukrainian Independence Day, blending traditional food and music with urgent fundraising for defenders back home. Local organizers highlighted Washington's sizable Ukrainian community, recent Seattle street rallies for peace, and ongoing efforts to keep U.S. political and financial support for Ukraine from fading.
3. Rave on the waves: Skrillex holds rare, sold-out concert at Gas Works Park (king5.com) — Thousands of fans packed Seattle's Gas Works Park and the surrounding waters of Lake Union for a rare, sold-out Skrillex show that quickly turned into a floating rave. Renton, WA asphalt plant war ends as King County buys land (fox13seattle.com) — King County has bought the long-disputed Cedar River site near Renton, permanently blocking a proposed asphalt plant and protecting a watershed that supplies drinking water to nearly 2 million people in the greater Seattle area. Officials now want public input on turning the land into habitat, parks, and trail connections that could link to nearby protected spaces and McGarvey Park.
