Polls are closed and the first ballots counted in the 2019 General Election

OLYMPIA, WA — The polls are closed Washington and the first batch of ballots have been counted. In Seattle, Tuesday's results showed early leads for business-backed candidates Egan Orion and Alex Pederson, as newcomers and incumbents vie for seven city council seats. Initiative 976, a ballot measure seeking to cut car tab fees while slashing billions in transportation funding, was ahead by 10 points in preliminary results. Referendum 88, which would restore affirmative action policies in Washington State, was trailing by about three points.
