Seattle's Natural Disaster Risk Makes It Least Safe In Washington

SEATTLE, WA - Seattle has been ranked the least safe big city in Washington, but not necessarily because of crime.

The website WalletHub on Monday release a ranking of the top 182 largest U.S. cities for safety, and Seattle came out No. 143 - that's less safe than bigger cities like New York and Chicago. The risk of a natural disaster was one of the biggest safety risk weighing against Seattle.

Out of the 182 cities on the list, Seattle's natural disaster risk was about as high as other earthquake-prone cities like Los Angeles, Anchorage, and San Francisco.

Four Washington cities made the list. Vancouver and Spokane were the two safest cities from Washington on the list at No. 26 and No. 50, respectively. Tacoma was also on the list, coming in at No. 114 overall - and had a similarly bad natural disaster risk rating as Seattle.

In terms of crime, Seattle also ranked lowest on the WalletHub list among Washington's four biggest cities - but in the same league as relatively safe big cities like Denver, Pittsburgh, and San Francisco.
