1. Puget Sound business leaders warn Washington economy is slipping (fox13seattle.com) — Seattle's mayor and top Puget Sound business leaders are warning that the region is losing its competitive edge, even as downtown vacancies climb and the city faces a major budget shortfall. A new Partnership for a Competitive Puget Sound is pushing simpler taxes, faster permitting, and stronger public‑private cooperation, while also tying public safety improvements to Seattle's economic recovery.

2. Tensions over gun violence flare between Seattle City Council, Mayor Wilson (fox13seattle.com) — Seattle residents face a key public safety debate as councilmembers prepare to vote on a $418,000 "focused deterrence" gun-violence strategy that Mayor Katie Wilson has dismissed as grandstanding. The clash has exposed communication rifts between the mayor's office and City Council, while some members question relying on an outside consultant and business leaders press for a broader 100‑day safety plan.

3. Seattle police make arrest in deadly Belltown shooting (fox13seattle.com) — Seattle police have arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with the Sept. 6 shooting that killed a 23-year-old woman in a parked car near 3rd and Blanchard in Belltown. Investigators say it was one of three deadly shootings in the neighborhood that weekend and are still seeking tips from the public through the Seattle Police Violence Crimes Tip Line.

4. Washington millionaire: Higher taxes won't send me packing (statenews.net) — If you're a high earner in Seattle or its suburbs, a proposed Washington Millionaires Tax on income over $1 million could soon affect you, though researchers say few wealthy residents are likely to move away. A local tech professional and national migration expert argue that social and professional ties, not tax rates, usually keep affluent people rooted, even in higher‑tax states.

5. 16 months after IEB protest, all charges set to drop for UW33 (dailyuw.com) — At UW Seattle, all 33 people charged after the 2025 Interdisciplinary Engineering Building sit‑in will see their misdemeanor trespass cases dismissed if they complete community service and avoid new offenses. The resolution follows months of suspensions, conduct hearings, and criminal referrals, which protesters now frame as a win for their organizing and for the broader Palestine solidarity movement.
