📰 News we're reading

1. Spokane and AI software partner to offer free permit pre-screening for fire victims (kxly920.com) — Spokane residents rebuilding after the August fires can now use a free AI-powered pre-screening service to catch missing documents and issues before submitting building permits to the city. Through a new partnership with Permittable, eligible homeowners, builders, and designers get one year of no-cost access, while city staff still handle all official reviews and decisions.

2. Mayor's Annual Address on Wildfires, Housing, and Community Safety (spokanecity.org) — Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown has outlined the city's progress and next steps on wildfire recovery, housing and homelessness, and plans for a new city-run 911 system in her annual address at the Garland Theater. She also shared a shorter version with the Spokane City Council, with videos highlighting work by her cabinet and community partners now available for residents to watch.

3. Def Leppard and the Goo Goo Dolls to perform in Spokane next spring (krem.com) — Def Leppard, the Goo Goo Dolls, and The Struts are bringing their 2027 North American tour to Spokane's Numerica Veterans Arena on May 11, with tickets going on sale October 16. Fans can tap early presales starting October 12, and each ticket sold will send $1 to City of Hope's cancer research and treatment efforts.

4. Mt. Spokane slowpitch wraps regular season with undefeated record; Naia Zalla scores two goals for East Valley soccer (spokesman.com) — Mt. Spokane slowpitch softball capped an undefeated regular season with a 9–6 win over Central Valley, setting up district tournament matchups for several Greater Spokane League teams. Thursday's action also saw strong performances from Lewis and Clark, University, Mead, and others, plus standout girls soccer efforts including two first-half goals by East Valley's Naia Zalla.

5. Edmonds American Legion donates $1,250 to Spokane fire relief (myedmondsnews.com) — Spokane-area fire recovery is getting a boost from Edmonds veterans, whose American Legion and VFW posts donated more than $2,000 to support local firefighters and fire relief. The gifts respond to the August Spokane Complex Fires, which forced mass evacuations, damaged a future veterans home site, and displaced patients from the Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center.
