Like Or Hate Fireworks? UP Looking For Citizens To Write Fireworks Ban Statement

University Place is putting a measure on the ballot about banning fireworks. They need citizens to write "pro" and "con" statements.

UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA - Maybe you love fireworks, maybe you can't stand them. Either way, there's a civic duty for you to fulfill. University Place is seeking citizen help to write the "pro" and "con" statements for an advisory ballot measure on banning fireworks in the city. The city needs as many as six people to write the statements (three on each side).

Here's how you can participate:

The City Council of the City of University Place adopted Resolution Number 843 to place before the voters an advisory proposition asking voters whether the sale, possession, and discharge of consumer fireworks should be prohibited within the City of University Place.

The City is seeking to appoint up to three individuals to write the “For” and “Against” statements for the Voters’ Pamphlet. If you are interested in participating, please submit statements of interest to the City Clerk by July 24, 2017, before 12:00 p.m.

The Ad Hoc Committee of the City Council will meet on July 24, 2017, 12:00 p.m. at City Hall to appoint committees to prepare arguments advocating approval and disapproval of the advisory ballot proposition for inclusion in the Voters’ Pamphlet. Interested parties are welcome to attend.
