Pierce County Deputy Takes Own Life In Yakima, Department Reports
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department reported Friday afternoon that a deputy committed suicide in Yakima.
UNIVERSITY PLACE, WA - The Pierce County Sheriff's Office reported Friday afternoon that a deputy committed suicide in Yakima. The department said that deputy Kory Shaffer died Friday. According to public records, Shaffer, 47, lived in University Place, and had worked in the department's narcotics enforcement unit.

Shaffer is the second Pierce County police officer to commit suicide recently. On April 25, Lakewood police officer Arron Grant, 40, died in Lakewood. The Tacoma News Tribune reported that Grant had struggled recently with a lawsuit he was involved in while he was a Seattle police officer. Grant had been a Lakewood officer since 2008.
According to Yakima police, Shaffer was found in a hotel room around 7 a.m. Friday.
