Dough Spills From Truck, Rises All Over Freeway

Heat + yeast = rising dough. Combine that formula with a major freeway, and you've got a recipe for disaster.

TACOMA, WA — This is literally a recipe for disaster. A truck full of dough began to overflow along I-5 in Tacoma Monday afternoon, spilling goopy beige stuff all over the road. The truck's driver told state police that the dough got too hot and began rising out of control while he was driving.

The truck eventually pulled over near the South 56th Street exit in Tacoma, but the overflow didn't stop. Trooper Brooke Bova caught a video of the yeast in action, shooting a video of the dough rising over the sides of the truck and splattering on the road.

According to The Olympian, the dough was discarded bakery waste, which is turned into animal feed in Tacoma. The driver, who is also the owner of the waste-to-feed company, was able to get another truck to come scoop the excess dough.

But unlike most disasters along I-5, this one ended OK. Bova said there were no delays because the truck was able to pull over to the shoulder. And nobody — except the yeast — was harmed.

"When you think you've seen it all you, you get dough on the freeway," Bova said.
