Trick or Treat set for October 31 this year, to stay the same going forward (wchsnetwork.com) — Kanawha County leaders have decided Trick or Treat will now always be held on October 31, giving Charleston families a consistent date every year. This year's Saturday celebration comes with safety reminders and an alternative: the 20th annual Trick or Beat at GoMart Ballpark, where kids can trick-or-treat in two sessions at the Charleston Dirty Birds' home field.
   

2. West Virginia students explore military academy opportunities during South Charleston event (wowktv.com) — Students from around Kanawha County, including the Charleston area, got detailed guidance on applying to U.S. service academies during an Academy Day at South Charleston High School. Military representatives and Sen. Shelley Moore Capito's staff walked families through admissions, nomination steps, and how to build strong academic, leadership, and fitness profiles for these highly competitive, fully funded college options.
   

3. Local Shriners donate to children's hospital (theintermountain.com) — Shriners connected with the Beni Kedem Shrine Temple in Charleston are helping lead a fast-growing Mountain Valleys Shrine Club that just delivered another $1,000 to Shriners Children's Lexington. Members from 11 West Virginia counties say Charleston's temple is now their main hub, making it easier to coordinate fundraising and support care for children regardless of families' ability to pay.
   

4. Paint fundraiser supports families separated by immigration detention (wchstv.com) — Charleston volunteers packed Fife Street Brewing for a Paint for a Purpose fundraiser supporting a statewide solidarity fund that helps immigrant families with basic expenses when a loved one is detained. Organizers say the fund has already assisted more than 250 families, and hope events like this introduce more Charleston residents to the network and the people it serves.
