Elkins officials explain water system letters (theintermountain.com) ā Elkins officials are reassuring residents that recent letters about unregulated contaminants do not mean city water is unsafe, and that all EPA test results came back below detection levels. You can review the sampling data online, by email, or at City Hall when it reopens for utility services Monday, and the Elkins Water Board will discuss system matters at its Oct. 12 meeting.

Fighting for Freedom: Raptor specialist working to keep bald eagle (dominionpost.com) ā In Elkins, longtime raptor specialist Jo Santiago is fighting to keep Freedom, the bald eagle sheās cared for 11 years, from being reclaimed by the American Eagle Foundation. Sheās asking residents to contact Sen. Shelley Moore Capito through an online form and to attend a āStand for Freedomā event in Clarksburg to support keeping Freedom in West Virginia serving veterans.

Forest Road 18 Closure Notice for Public Health and Safety on the Monongahela National Forest (usda.gov) ā If you use Monongahela National Forest near Elkins, be ready for Forest Road 18 closures starting Monday, October 5, from 6 a.m. through October 26 during construction. The Forest Service is blocking access beyond barricades for public safety and urges residents to obey signs and watch online for updates before heading out.

WVWC to recognize 2026 alumni award winners during Founders Day (mybuckhannon.com) ā West Virginia Wesleyan College will honor several alumni during its Oct. 9 Founders Day Convocation, including Elkins-born biomedical researcher Dr. Zachery Lonergan and Elkins High School band director and swim coach Seth Blake.
