Greendale, Here Comes September

This week the Village Grandma is thinking about Reading Buddies, Hay Days and a smoking garbage disposal.

Happy September Greendale,

School has started for another year. What fun it is to sit on my little porch and watch all the kiddies on their way to. Rather like a bunch of little lemmings with backpacks.

You should know that I got my invitation to the Reading Buddies annual kick-off meeting. I can't wait to find out which little first grade doofuses I will be paired with this year. Plus, I'm in a hotly contested battle with the other buddies to see who has the best stickers to reward the little readers with. It's almost frightening to compete with some of the other buddies. I'm pretty confident of a big win this year, but it's a real hair puller.

Here's a little warning for my fellow older folks. A few days ago, I was very busy in my little original Greendale cottage. Washing clothes, vacuuming, all the while with the TV on as company. That is probably why I accidentally left my garbage disposal on for over an hour. I figured it out when I smelled smoke. Not enough to bother the fire department thankfully. Fortunately, it is still working, although a bit sluggish. I had bought the deluxe model initially and was assured that I could — if necessary — grind up an entire chicken feathers and all. Today, it had a bit of a problem with a bit Jello.  So, along with making sure that you haven't left a stove burner on you should also check your disposal.

Here is some Greendale news.

Pick out a designated driver and head off to . There will be live music and a silent auction so don't miss this one.

In an attempt to appease all the local ghosts and goblins, there has been some discussion about holding a Halloween parade this year. How much fun is that?

Did you know that our has welcomed a whopping 35 new teachers this school year to replace the many retiring school staff members? Good luck to all of them.

There will be a variety of testing including hearing, vision and social skills to name a few. This is the perfect venue for you  to prove to others that your child really is superior.

Another fall tradition is looming. Hay Days will be held October 1st. In addition to the usual frivolities, there will be a competition among several community fire stations  to determine which department has the best BBQ sauce. It is recommended that you bring along a nice cold drink since this will be a very SPICY contest.

Well that's about it for this week. I haven 't seen much of Gump (the living balloon animal) since he exhausted himself trying to catch a moth a few days ago. It took me until today to replace all the lamps and wall decor. And since he's not a proponent of catch and release he did eat it . I think Nasferatu is pretty embarrassed to admit that he's her brother.

Anyhow it looks like great weather is on the way. Perfect for fall cleaning and getting rid of those dead geraniums and breaking out the mums.

Until next week.
