Historic Fire Engine Rides And More Planned For Village Days

GREENDALE, WI — The Greendale Historical Society released several new events that run until September. The events will bring a chance to ride in Greendale's original fire engine, the Diamond T, plus a walking tour through the past, according to the historical society website.

Both the Walking Tour of Historic Greendale and the Diamond T Fire Truck rides will be available during the upcoming Village Days. Down the line, plenty more fire truck rides have been planned, according to the historical society website.

Village Days is coming up soon. The festival will feature music, food and the first of many opportunities to ride in the Diamond T Fire Engine this year.

Historical Society Events At Village Days

Ride the Diamond T

The Diamond-T fire engine was the original fire engine for Greendale back in the day. The red wagon once put out grass fires and protected the homes and businesses of Greendale during its founding days as a village, according to a news release from the Historical Society.

It passed through the hands of multiple private collectors after being sold off by the village, but in 2015 it landed back in Village hands.

The fire engine will give rides to Village Days attendants all throughout the festival. Proceeds from the rides will go toward benefitting the continued fire engine restoration. Register online for a ride at village days.

Walking Tour of Historic Greendale

The Walking Tour of Historic Greendale will take place on Aug. 14. It will be a 45 minute tour led by guides versed in Greendale history. The walking tour will go over the history of Greendale as a Greenbelt Town.

It will emphasize the careful planning of Greendale, especially how that planning has lasted through the years and "created a way of life," Ted Mainella, Greendale Historical Society Treasurer told Patch.

The guided walking tour takes you around the winding paths of Greendale and features the history of Greendale landmarks, according to Mainella.

Tours come to Village Days with the knowledge that the festival will bring reunions of families and people since moved out of Greendale.

"It would be a great time to get reacquainted with the village you grew up in," Mainella said.
