I Survived Village Days
This week the Village Grandma reviews the Village Days Parade, shares good news about the Angle Lane Bridge and ponders the new Greendale census numbers.

Happy Monday Greendale,
I am fresh from watching the It was really quite good with little ponies, the Statue of Liberty, cheerleaders, service dogs and, of course, Village Trustees each in their own separate car. I brought along a large Sendik's bag to carry all the candy I was sure would come my way. I made it known — in this column last week — that my vote was in the balance, depending on the generosity and candy selection of the individual trustees. Surprisingly, the only trustee interested in my vote was Greg Turay. He was the only one to toss a Tootsie Roll in my general direction.
Anyhow, the parade was good and Village Days seemed to be well attended too, despite some rain on Saturday. It would have been easier to make plans to attend certain entertainment offerings if the flyers that were distributed had the correct dates, but there you are. Not everything can go on without a little hitch right?

As usual Village Days is the perfect time for former graduates to hold reunions and the high school was holding tours for alumni as well.
Prepare yourself now for some super news! I was walking down Angle Lane and I was simply dumbstruck! Work has actually started on the Angle Lane Bridge. I sure didn't see that coming.

. However the population of us oldsters has increased by 2%. This demographic will increase further when the new Southridge senior project opens. Since I am a senior citizen myself, I think I can say that skewing old might not be the right direction for the Village. This is really a super place for young families to raise children. I don't advocate leaving us oldsters on an ice floe with a blanket and some raw fish in order to decrease our population, but rather find some way to promote our village to the younger house hunters.
Good job girls!
I hope to see all of you at the Village board meeting on Tuesday at 7 p.m. This is the meeting where the Police Department Fire Department and the DPW will be presenting their monthly reports. For those of you with prior commitments I will be sure to let you know what went on.
Since there have been no dead bird reports in the Village, we can rest a lot easier as far as West Nile Virus is concerned. However, it would be best to distance yourself from the deer that are munching on your gladiolas. Deer ticks have been reported which can cause Lyme Disease. Maybe go on a tick hunt on your pet's fur as well.
Finally, we are experiencing some nice typical late summer temperatures. It's great exercise to just take a trip through the Village with it's many walkways. The Village Center is filled with people enjoying a cup of coffee, having a nice chin-wag, shopping and walking willy-nilly across Broad Street.
I've really been remiss in my garden chore with recent steamy weather. My front yard is beginning to resemble a Peruvian rain forest. I'd best put on my garden gloves and mosquito netting and dive in. Hopefully, I won't accidentally pull out my neighbor’s enormous corn plant by mistake.
I really must find a deeper litter box. Nosferatu is quite dainty in her personal toileting habits. On the other hand, Gump with his enormous leg muscles tends to propel the kitty litter halfway up the wall and several feet into the kitchen. This is not only disturbing when greeting guests, it is pretty uncomfortable when walking barefoot across the floor.
By the way, I heard a few people talking about the Greendale Patch. They said it was the very best place to get Greendale news. So, kudos to you, for tuning us in.
Must run now. I have to go look for my rubber garden shoes.
