New Student Representative Named to Greendale School Board
Board members approve appointment of GHS junior to represent students at meetings.

There is a new member on the .
Sarah Johnson, a junior at , was appointed to a two-year term by board members at their regular meeting on Monday, August 15.
Johnson is replacing . The other student representative is Haley Serketich.

The students serve in an advisory capacity to the board, attending all regularly scheduled board meetings and participating in non-confidential discussions.
School Board President Tom Slota commented on the important role the student representatives play in providing feedback from the student body at the high school to the board and in disseminating information from the board to the students.

"They have opened our eyes more than once," Slota said.
Johnson thanked the board for appointing her and said, "I will try to do my best to get student opinions back to the board, not just my own."
Johnson told the board that she is involved with the high school's music program as a cello player, is the assistant stage manager for the school's theatre program and is involved in a leadership team with a youth group at her church, in addition to taking a challenging class course load this year.
Four students had applied for the position and were interviewed over the summer by an appointment team.
Upon welcoming Johnson, Superintendent Bill Hughes pointed out that she was the only one of the candidates for the position who attended a school board meeting to see what she would be involved in.
