Photos: Greendale Panthers Host Franklin Sabers in 2011 Season Opener

Greendale battles Franklin in a close season opening, but falls to the Sabers 10-17.

Football fever hit Greendale hard tonight as fans flocked to Gavinski stadium to witness the season opener between their beloved Panthers and rival Franklin Sabers.

Although Greendale won the initial coin toss, the rest of the evening didn't seem to go quite their way.  Turnovers and elusive first-downs seemed to get the best of the team resulting in an ending score of 10 to 17 - Franklin.  Still, the Panthers fought the good fight and there was hope late in the fourth quarter that a rally could tie the game.

Despite the evening's loss, spirits remained high and throughout the game.  Half-time entertainment included a routine from the Pom team that earned them the Midwest championship and a marching band performance.
