Sleepless in Greendale
This week, the Village Grandma is thinking about noises in the night, things that go bump in the night and the color purple.

Hello again Greendale,
It looks like the first signs of fall have crept into the Village. Due to Gump's voracious hunger, which he voices, every morning with an ungodly yowl, I must prepare his breakfast no later than 5 a.m. So, I have now noticed that the sun rises later and later each day. The nights have been cooler as well. Isn't it pleasant and restful to sleep with the windows open?
At night, you can appreciate the soothing quiet of the Village punctuated occasionally by the persistent yapping of the Chihuahua next door or the earsplitting territorial battle to the death between alpha raccoons. Or, the endless chirping of the crickets and the roar of a neighbor's motorcycle as he returns home from a gathering at Ray and Dot's and after finally falling to sleep the squeal of brakes which signal that the morning paper has arrived. There's just nothing like life in a quaint quiet village right?

I've notice a threefold increase in foot traffic now that the Angle Lane Bridge has been repaired. I had forgotten just how many dog walkers there were in the neighborhood. Not to mention the tourists. I'm sure others will disagree but I think it was FEMA money well spent.
I must sincerely apologize to all of you. I had all good intentions of attending the last Tuesday, I got wrapped up in the Margaret O'Brien film marathon on TBS and totally forgot. Fortunately, I have a double secret undercover agent who usually attends the meeting for me. That person also had some sort of brain freeze and did not attend either. So, this week the vital goings on will go unreported.

I have some bad news share. The l f Everyone expects better things for the team going forward. Spectators at the game have reported a dearth of fans in the bleachers signaling a need for ideas on how to increase the seating capacity.
On the plus side, the Greendale High School once again took first place. This time it was the Midwest Grand Championship and they will be rewarded with a trip to Disney World in February. Super job ladies!
I heard that the has a slew of new teachers this year. In an effort to acquaint them with Greendale they held a road rally/scavenger hunt for them throughout the Village. I guess it was some sort of test or initiation ritual to make sure each of them was worthy.
This sounds interesting: to coincide with Halloween the pubic library will be hosting an event focusing on tales by the So if you by chance have spirits haunting your house they will be able to answer all your questions. As a matter of fact, I was pretty sure that I had a poltergeist or something rummaging around my little house. I began missing items like pens, bottle tops, a glove, and some small knick-knacks. I was beginning to think in terms of employing an exorcist until I happened upon a cache of the very same items in Gump's hidey-hole. Problem solved for me but you may have more serious interlopers.
Like all Greendale ladies I like to keep up with the latest in fashion. Of course the best harbinger of fashion do's and don'ts for me has always been the New York Times Fashion edition. Usually, this edition is skewed toward the young but this year I was pleased to find that the must-have color of the year is purple which will match perfectly not only the varicose veins that come with age but also the dark circles under the eyes.
Looks like I have more gardening to do. Some of my petunias and geraniums have seen better days. I discovered that gardening really does bring neighbors together. Last week, as I was weeding, my neighbor with the tall corn plant came over and didn't leave until it was time for me to go inside. As a matter of fact, he pulled up a chair and sat right next to his corn plant the whole time. Now if that's not typical neighborliness I don't know what is.
