1. Redesign of Madison's Milwaukee Street expected to increase traffic safety (ibmadison.com) — Milwaukee Street on Madison's east side is set for a safety-focused redesign, with new medians, raised intersections, and a shared-use path between Starkweather Creek and West Corporate Drive. The plan also adds a south-side bike lane, upgraded utilities, and broader terraces as the corridor shifts toward a mixed-use "community main street."
   

2. Project Hero Capitol-to-Capitol Ride Finish & Community Coffee Celebration (wjjo.com) — Project Hero's Capitol-to-Capitol ride will finish at the Wisconsin State Capitol in downtown Madison this Saturday, with riders arriving around 9:30–10 a.m. Neighbors are invited to the Best Western Premier Park Hotel on Carroll Street for free coffee while welcoming cyclists and showing support for veterans, military members, first responders, and families affected by traumatic brain injuries.
   

3. Dane County launches AI assistant for non-emergency calls (nbc15.com) — If you call Dane County's non-emergency number in Madison, you'll now reach "Ava," an AI assistant that screens routine calls so human dispatchers can focus on true emergencies. County officials say the $180,000-a-year system, mostly grant-funded, is secure, keeps data on-premises, and has every call reviewed to ensure accurate information for dispatchers.
   

4. Kou Her Memorial Scholarship honors Julia McKnight (madison.com) — A Madison College adult learner, Julia McKnight, has been awarded the Kou Her Memorial Scholarship, which honors Asian-descendant students who persevere through challenges. After completing her GED/HSED through Madison College's School of Academic Advancement, she's now pursuing a nursing degree and hopes her education will bring financial stability and inspire her family to chase their own goals.
   

5. Data center prospector could be setting sights on Dane County (isthmus.com) — A data center land prospector, Cloverleaf Infrastructure, has moved to intervene in Madison Gas & Electric's proposed new rates for very large power users, signaling interest in sites across southern Wisconsin. With Madison and Dane County both under temporary data center moratoriums, local officials are racing to finalize zoning rules as state regulators weigh how these massive projects will reshape energy demand and who pays for new infrastructure.
