1. Madison art museum debuts new exhibition using generative AI amidst pushback (wpr.org) — A new interactive Beeple exhibition at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art lets visitors reshape AI-generated digital images in real time, but it's drawing strong criticism from local artists over consent and ethics. Museum director-curator Paul Baker Prindle defends showing the work, saying they followed copyright law and see the controversy as a needed community conversation about how Madison and Wisconsin use artificial intelligence in art and daily life.
   

2. Fraternity headquarters releases official statement on Madison chapter hazing allegations (wearegreenbay.com) — Madison police say they interrupted a suspected hazing event this week at an unrecognized Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house near UW–Madison, finding about 30 partially clothed 18-year-olds in a hot basement, some with apparent assault injuries. The fraternity's national headquarters condemned hazing, pledged full cooperation with investigators, and said any members found criminally responsible in the Madison chapter will be expelled and face prosecution.
   

3. Garage Fire Displaces Two Households, No Injuries Reported (cityofmadison.com) — A Friday evening garage fire on the 600 block of Burdette Court in Madison displaced seven residents and four pets but caused no injuries. Firefighters from multiple companies quickly knocked down heavy flames, while the Red Cross is helping those affected. Neighbors are asked to watch for two missing cats that may have escaped the blaze as investigators determine the cause.
   

4. Experts to weigh in on strategies for sustainability data (dairyprocessing.com) — Dairy professionals in and around Madison can sign up for a two-day Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association workshop this October focused on building stronger sustainability data strategies. Held at WCMA's Madison offices, the sessions will cover what data to collect, how to protect its integrity, and how to prepare for audits so processors can turn reporting demands into business value.
   

5. Madison man arrested in connection to Whitewater homicide investigation (wmtv15news.com) — A 44-year-old Madison man was arrested on Madison's east side this week in connection with a July homicide investigation in Whitewater, after a multi-agency operation at his home. Officers say they seized large quantities of cocaine, heroin, and fentanyl, and expect federal drug charges in addition to a first-degree reckless homicide count, while investigators are withholding further details to protect the ongoing case.
