Sophomores Triumph in Donkey Basketball Tourney

Students and teachers played basketball while riding on the backs of donkeys. One girl took a hard fall and was taken out on a stretcher as a precaution.

Donkey Basketball was played on real, living donkeys at Menomonee Falls High School on Mar. 16th at 7 p.m.  This tournament was a fundraiser for Junior Prom.

Students and staff attempted stay on their donkeys while trying to score.

Not everyone stayed on their donkeys, including one junior girl who fell hard when her donkey tossed her off his back.  The girl was shaken up, but talking and responsive.  She was taken out on a stretcher as a safety precaution.

The game continued afterward.

The game is played like regular basketball, with a few additional rules.  Players must coax their donkeys to bring the ball up to the court (players cannot throw a full court pass to score.)  The moderator kept reminding the players that they needed to be riding their donkeys to shoot or pass.  Players can otherwise walk their donkey, but must keep holding the reins.

There were 12 riders per team of sophomores, juniors, seniors, and faculty.  There were two games plus a championship match.  The sophomore team won the championship match and the bragging rights this year.
