Most Parents Love Post Prom Move to Sturtevant
Moving Post Prom to Sturtevant didn't sit well with some, but most parents were pleased.
Post Prom preparation continued even as parents were taking tours of the Sturtevant SportPlex Saturday. From setting up the different "countries" to traveling to Las Vegas and the Old West, kids are going to have one heck of a night.
For the most part, parents were supportive of the move to Sturtevant and the need to buy tickets for the bleachers. Those without tickets stood behind a snow fence across the street from the red carpet.
"We appreciate it because it's better crowd control," said Tena Chaffee.

Gloria Jacobsen first attended prom in 1965 at Memorial Hall and said what's important is that the post prom tradition continues.
"This looks like a great place to have this event for the kids," she said. "Every year is bigger so we need to find space that fits. It's more important that we keep having post prom, isn't it?"

But Kosheda Butler said Sturtevant is too far and there wasn't enough information for people to know they needed to buy tickets.
"I feel like we're separated," she said.
St. Catherine's students Sam Wenzel and Courtney Theisen said they don't appreciate having to buy tickets to see their friends.
"This feels more about money than community," said Wenzel. "That's not what Racine is about."
Rose Miller was there from Union Grove to watch daughter Ashley arrive on a boat. She said she would have purchased tickets to sit in the bleachers had she been aware but didn't mind having to stand across the street.
"It's just fantastic that the kids from Union Grove were invited to be part of this," she said. "I'm okay with being over here."
Sturtevant Police Chief Sean Marschke said there were no problems outside with the crowds.
"No, it was fine," he said after the students were inside. "Everyone was great and just enjoyed seeing what they could see."
