Park Senior was First Intern to Work in Intensive Care Unit

Nick Sytsma is an academic scholar who has a great foundation in healthcare from his work at Wheaton Franciscan.

In his four years at Washington Park High School, Nick Sytsma has earned stellar academic honors. He is a National Merit Finalist and an AP Scholar with Distinction.  He’s played soccer all four years, been in the National Honor Society, Positive Impact, Geography Bowl, and Four Square Club. Nick started exploring a healthcare career through Health Occupations Students of America and Health Youth Apprenticeship, through which Nick became a Certified Nursing Assistant. As a result of this, Nick was hired at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare last October and has worked in the intensive care unit, the first youth apprentice ever do to so.

It shouldn't be a surprise that Nick wants to be a physician.

Equally important in Nick’s life is his involvement in his church and his commitment to his faith. He’s been a leader and active participant in his church youth group, been part of numerous missions trips, and Campus Life. Nick’s choice of colleges is one where he believes he can grow both intellectually and spiritually. He plans to pursue degrees in applied health sciences and Spanish at Wheaton College.
