SPArK Presents Cyber-Mare, a Nightmare for the Cyber Age
Bullying can take on a new and overwhelming turn through social media. Meet the cast of "Cyber-Mare," a show produced and acted by members of SPArK, a student group comprised of kids from different high schools.
The Internet is a fun tool that can open new worlds, but it can also open the door to danger. From the potential to connecting with adults who could do them harm, kids are also using social media to bully their classmates.
How to deal with these dangers is the focus of Cyber-Mare, a new play performed by SPArK (Student Performing Arts Kompany) and directed by Kara Ernst from the Racine Theater Guild.
Everyone is invited to a free performance of Cyber-Mare at 6:30 pm Monday in the Racine Theatre Guild auditorium, 2519 Northwestern Avenue.

Cyber-Mare, a one-act production by Cindy Keegan, addresses the unknown and unpredictable world of the Internet and the dangers that can easily be released through the computer and into life.
This play follows the lives of eight teenagers as they embark on their journey through the Internet. They get caught in webs of lies and they must help one another escape the terrible consequences they encounter in cyberspace. Cyber-Mare features practical scenarios, without being preachy or too heavy, that can teach everyone crucial lessons about the Internet.

On average, Americans spend almost 45 percent of their day on social media sites and the Internet in general. The production aims to open the audience's mind to ask questions about who is really on the other end of the connection.
After auditioning in the fall, the cast includes eight young actors from grades six through ten, from schools all over Racine: Jacob Bakich (Starbuck Middle School) as Jason, Alec Buhler (McKinley Middle) as Jared, Brandye Carter (Mitchell Middle) as Susan, Maxie Collen as Tessa and Sophie Torosian as Jane (Racine Montessori), Kim Dahl (Trinity Lutheran) as Maggie, AshleyMarie Dail (The Prairie School) as Cindy, and Trevor Grayson (Park High School) as Gary. After spending the first two months preparing for unknown roles and learning how to become any type of character, the cast recieved their roles in Feburary and have been working diligently since.
