Safety City Still Looking for Teen Volunteers

Muskego program that teaches youngsters safe habits on the bike and in the home is in its 33rd year.

The Muskego Women’s Club, Muskego Police Department, Muskego Parks and Recreation Department, and Muskego/Norway School District partner up to bring "Safety City" to kids from 4 to 7 years old.

However, it's the older kids they need to have on hand to make the program a success, and a second call for children 11-18 years of age has gone out.

The program recreates a child-size city where children use big wheels to learn about road and pedestrian safety.  In addition, fire protection, poison prevention, animal safety, and stranger awareness are covered.

"We need students who have patience, maturity, and enjoy working with preschoolers," said Lt. David Constantineau of Muskego PD. "They should consider volunteering some of their free time this summer to help teach younger children how to be safe - and if you need volunteer hours for school, I can’t think of a better way to get them."

Classes are offered Monday - Friday July 18-29 and you can help out in the morning, afternoon, or both.  If you are interested, contact Officer Mrotek at gmrotek@ci.muskego.wi.us or 262-679-5653 for details.
