Drunk Martini and Adderall Man's Crash on I-43 Sends Trailer off Freeway Ramp

A man arrested on his 8th OWI offense, collided on I-43 with another driver's trailer, sending the trailer over the edge.

MILWAUKEE, WI — On Tuesday, at 5:45 p.m., deputies responded to a crash on I-43 northbound on the W. Howard off-ramp in Milwaukee.

A van driven by Michael R. Baeckmann, age 49, of Milwaukee, struck a trailer attached to a pickup truck on the off ramp, dislodging the trailer from the truck and pushing the vehicle off the ramp.

According to Baeckmann, he had a martini and Adderall pills prior to the crash. He tested .18 on a PBT. Baeckmann has seven prior convictions for drunken driving: June 1991, November 1993, March 1994, February 1996, October 2001, August 2005, and June 2008.

If convicted of this eighth offense, a Class F felony, Baeckmann faces up to ten years in prison.
