Not enough drivers on Oak Creek's roads are stopping for school buses as bus drivers drop school children off at home after schoo.

OAK CREEK, WI — The safety of children is of the highest importance in any community. But unfortunately in Oak Creek, not enough drivers on Oak Creek's roads are stopping for school buses as bus drivers perform their daily duty of dropping off children after school.

Patch.com looked at police records for the month of May and have seen regular incidents where drivers seemingly ignore safety lights and arms that are designed to protect children who are being dropped off at the side of the road.

Here, we report on a small sample size to show you what we're seeing on a regular basis: from May 22-25 there were 5 reported incidents in Oak Creek alone that could have put children at risk:

May 22: Riteway Bus Service reported a school bus violation near the intersection of S. 13th St. and W. Southfield Rd. in which a black Jeep did not stop for the bus while unloading students at the location.

May 23: Near W. Rawson Ave. and S. Howell Ave. As a Riteway bus driver was on Rawson, half a block west of Howell, with the red stop sign out, a vehicle went through the stop arm.

May 23: S. Quincy Ave. and E. Mackinac Ave. The driver of a vehicle disregarded a school bus stop arm.

May 23: E Rawson Ave. and South S. Howell Ave. A Riteway bus driver reported a white WE Energies truck went through the stop arm of the school bus.

May 24: W. Puetz Rd. and S. Liberty Lane Riteway Bus Servies reports that while dropping off students near the intersection, a gray Honda Accord passed the bus on the left while the bus's red lights and stop arm was out.
