Illinois Man Dies at Mitchell International Airport

MILWAUKEE -- An elderly Illinois man has died after suffering an apparent medical emergency at the Mitchell International Airport on Monday afternoon.

Milwaukee County Sheriff's deputies were alerted by Airport Operations of a medical emergency in Concourse C at approximately 3:40 p.m. Monday.

When deputies arrived on the scene, they learned that an off-duty Franklin police officer and an off-duty registered nurse were already performing CPR on the unresponsive man.

Milwaukee County Fire and Milwaukee Fire departments also responded. At 4:25 p.m., Andrew Economopoulos, age 89, of Gurnee, Illinois, was pronounced deceased at the scene. He had been traveling from New York with two others.
