IRS Phone Scammers Target Oak Creek; Coerce Woman into $9,000 Fee

IRS scammers posing as Oak Creek police reportedly called a woman, demanding she pay $9,000 in fines after she was threatened with arrest.

OAK CREEK, WI — An Oak Creek woman reported being the target of an IRS scam on Monday after a suspicious call from "Officer Stevens" of the "Oak Creek Police Department" reportedly called her stating that she owed $9,000 from the "IRS" and that there would be an arrest warrant issued for her for tax evasion.

According to the report, she received the phone call, in which the phony officer stold her to purchase iTunes cards at the Oak Creek Meijer and Target in Grafton.

All $9,000 worth of iTuunes cards were to be given to the person on the line, who then stated that due to additional fees, they needed an additional $5,300 by Monday.

The woman was concerned because the phony officer on the line was able to ping her phone's location while she was speaking with them when she was traveling to an incorrect store.

Oak Creek police advised the woman that it was a scam and that she also needed to contact the IRS to report the scam as well.
