When police made contact with Kamakian, he was reportedly staring straight ahead and would not answer officers' questions. The officer opened the driver's door and observed Kamakian swaying heavily back and forth. His speech was extremely slurred and he could not answer questions that officers were asking, according to the complaint.
Kamakian admitted to officers that he drank "a lot", but would not answer other questions. Police spoke with a witness who observed Kamakian driving earlier in the evening, and assisted in removing the keys from the ignition of the vehicle.
