Police reports state that Howe said that the entire incident stemmed from a situation that unfolded earlier that evening. Howe told police that his girlfriend carved his name into her leg and then sent a picture of it to her daughter.

Once her daughter saw the picture, she immediately went to their home to see if the mother was okay. When the daughter arrived, Howe threatened her with the sword in an attempt to get she and her friends off of his property.

Officers spoke with Howe again, who admitted to the incident and showed the sword that he used to intimidate his girlfriend's daughter and her friends.
