Oak Creek, Milwaukee Drivers Arrested For OWI With Children In Car

The Milwaukee County Sheriff arrested Oak Creek and Milwaukee residents for drunk driving as they were traveling with children on I-94, I-43

MILWAUKEE COUNTY, WI — Memorial Day weekend is a long weekend for most, but for two Milwaukee-area drivers, it was much longer after they were arrested for drunk driving while traveling on area interstate highways with children in their vehicles.

On Sunday, May 28, at 1:00 a.m., a deputy stopped a van he saw deviating from its lane of traffic on I-43 northbound at Walnut Street.
Vieta L. Caldwell, age 34, of Milwaukee, tested .13 on a preliminary breath test and was arrested for DUI-2nd offense. There were four passengers in the van, all children, ages 3 months, five, eleven, and thirteen years old. Caldwell will also be charged with OWI-2ndW/child passenger under 16 years old. A relative of the children picked the children up at the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office Patrol Sub-station at 2:30 a.m. Caldwell faces up to one year and 90 days in jail, if convicted.

On Sunday, May 28, at about 6:00 p.m., witnesses reported a driver who appeared to be falling asleep behind the wheel on I-94 westbound at 68th Street. The car veered and crashed into the guardrail. Danielle Flores, age 27, of Oak Creek, was taken into custody for DUI-1st/Drugs. According to the Sheriff's office, Flores was combative with deputies at the scene. A seven-year-old child in the car was turned over to a relative per Child Protective Services.
