Oak Creek Police Oust Man From Suspicious Campsite

While in the woods, the apparent camper walked up to the officer and stated that all the property belonged to him.

OAK CREEK, WI -- Oak Creek police responded to a wooded area near the 8400 block of S. 5th Ave. just before 4 p.m. on Feb. 11 on a report that a man set up a suspicious camp in the area.

The investigating officer reported that a makeshift camo tent, hunting arrows, two hatchets, a shovel and a burn pit were all discovered in the camp in the woods just north of Sunrise Shore on Milwaukee County property.

While in the woods, the apparent camper walked up to the officer and stated that all the property belonged to him.

The man told police he was under the impression that he could clear away dead fall and have a fire pit.
The officer advised the man that the property he was camping on was, in fact, county property, and advised the man to gather his belongings and leave the area behind.

The officer contacted the State Department of Natural Resources about the matter, and officials advised the officer that his police action was sufficient and that he would not need to conduct any further investigation in regards to a potential hunting violation.
