6-Year-Old Who Died In Car Accident Identified By Police

Police say the 6-year-old boy was out riding his bicycle with his family when he was fatally struck by a pickup truck.

WAUKESHA, WI — It was a tragic night Saturday, July 14, for the family of a 6-year-old boy who was killed by a pickup truck while riding his bike in Waukesha.

Authorities identified that young victim as six-year-old Logan Smith of Waukesha. He was a student at Hillcrest Elementary School.

The family stated in a press release from the Waukesha Sheriff's Office: “Our family has been humbled by the kindness, compassion and prayers we have received from the community. Our hearts have been touched by the outpouring of love from all of you. We ask that you continue to pray for our family during the days ahead."

The Smith family was walking home from Dairy Queen on the night of July 14. Police said as they were crossing the street at the intersection of E. Racine Avenue and Cheviot Chase, when the pickup truck hit the mother and Smith. He was taken to Waukesha Memorial Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Despite intensive medical attention, Smith didn't make it. "It is with our deepest sympathy to inform you that even with advanced medical intervention by emergency responders and hospital personnel the 6-year-old bicyclist passed away at Waukesha Memorial Hospital," the press release says.

The driver of the pickup stayed on the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police said the District Attorney will review the investigation and determine whether citations or charges are to be filed.

The Waukesha Police Department released the following statement after the crash:

"Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers for our family during this very difficult time. We ask you to continue to pray and respect our privacy during this time of grieving."
