Best. Present. Ever.

Helping Gunner was a collaborative effort including 2 humane societies, countless volunteers, several veterinarians, doggy day care…and one very determined foster mom who knew this wonderful dog deserved a second chance.

Gunner is a 10-year-old Redbone Coonhound.

When Gunner first arrived at our sister shelter in Watertown, he had a terrible skin infection that had gone untreated for a very long time - resulting in severe hair loss and thickening of the skin. A staff member at HAWS asked to foster him, and with lots of TLC his skin cleared and his hair grew back. He was put on a life-long regimen of thyroid medications.

While in foster care, Gunner also learned many commands and made many friends! He was great in almost ANY situation, including parties and family gatherings and HAWS events and more. A wonderful dog, Gunner just loved to be loved. Aside from his thyroid care, Gunner was really low maintenance… and then he began showing signs of separation anxiety! But, time at doggy daycare and regular exercise and socialization really helped him.
So, now all that was left was to find this handsome boy a new home.
And then we got the news yesterday:

“It is with a happy tear in my eye that I tell you Gunner got the PERFECT home for Christmas. I want to thank all of his supporters, fans and donors for all of their love. Gunner is an amazing dog that will not be forgotten by anyone who meets him. I promise to post pictures when his new family sends some.

Definitely the best gift we could get! Congrats to his new family and thanks to all who helped Gunner on his journey.
