Cooper Power Systems To Lay Off 52 In Waukesha

Citing the outsourcing of its maintenance department, Cooper Power Systems says they're laying off 52 workers.

WAUKESHA, WI — Cooper Power Systems, a Waukesha manufacturer of medium and high-voltage power systems, has announced that they are laying off 52 employees due to company outsourcing.

According to a letter filed with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development on June 29, Cooper Power Systems plans to permanently lay off a total of 52 employees with the outsourcing of Eaton's Maintenance Department at its three Waukesha facilities, located at 1900 E. North St., 2300 Badger Drive and 1319 E. Lincoln Ave.

According to the letter, Eaton expects to complete layoffs by September 7, 2018.

The layoffs break down as follows:

  • 2 clerks
  • 2 crib attendants
  • 12 electricians
  • 1 lead clerk
  • 1 machinist
  • 3 assistant maintenance
  • 28 mechanics
  • 3 team leaders

According to a CBS 58 report, Representative Scott Allen issued the following statement on the Cooper Power Systems layoff, "I am sorry to hear this news, and my heart goes out to the affected employees and their families. With record-low unemployment and expanding job opportunities, Wisconsin needs these skilled workers and I hope each of them will remain here and seek employment in the Waukesha area."
