Charges filed against Waukesha man following Meijer hostage case (jsonline.com) — A 21-year-old Waukesha man faces six felony charges after an alleged hostage situation inside the Meijer on East Sunset Drive, where a customer was held at knifepoint and later lost part of his thumb during police intervention. Lehman remains in the Waukesha County Jail on a $1 million cash bond, with witnesses describing panic as shoppers fled or hid while officers confronted the suspect.
   

2. Waukesha City Hall sign headed for repairs (gmtoday.com) — Waukesha officials are moving ahead with long-awaited repairs to the damaged City Hall monument sign, which also serves as a protective barrier along the grounds. The Board of Public Works will consider a resolution Thursday to design and bid out the roughly $110,000 rehabilitation, following a February crash in which a Waukesha resident allegedly struck the sign while driving intoxicated.
   

3. Kai 11 Save-a-Heart Mission provides cardiac screenings for 200 students in Waukesha (cbs58.com) — About 200 local students received heart screenings in Waukesha through the Kai 11 Save-a-Heart Mission, aimed at catching hidden cardiac conditions early. Along with EKGs, families learned about sudden cardiac arrest risks and got CPR and AED training from the Waukesha Fire Department, potentially lifesaving knowledge for the community.
   

4. Traveling Iraq-Afghanistan memorial honors fallen service members in Waukesha (wisn.com) — A powerful national memorial honoring service members killed since 9/11 is on display this week at Waukesha's Schuetze Recreation Center, featuring banners with 5,000 names and photos submitted by families. Local Legion Riders, veterans, and police helped kick off the exhibit, which highlights 11 fallen service members from Waukesha County and concludes with a closing ceremony Sunday at 4:30 p.m.
   

5. Waukesha County expands personalized boardwalk plank program to Mukwonago Park (gmtoday.com) — Waukesha County Parks is inviting residents to "Leave Your Mark" by buying personalized planks for a new boardwalk extension at Mukwonago Park's Dog Exercise Area. For a $275 donation, your engraved message becomes part of the trail, with planks purchased through August expected to be installed during September construction.
