Group to Fight Razing of Historic Waukesha Building
Oft-vacant property at 500 Riverview Ave. that historically had been known for housing the Grand View Health Resort and Moor Mud Baths

WAUKESHA - A building that currently has historical landmark status is at the center of debate between preservationists, and the county, who reportedly wants to free up the land for development.
According to a report published by the Milwaukee Business Journal, the debate centers around the oft-vacant property at 500 Riverview Ave. that historically had been known for housing the Grand View Health Resort and Moor Mud Baths.
According to the report, Waukesha County officials asked the city to lift the building’s landmark status so it can be torn down after attempts to sell the property were not successful. Critics of the move say the county did not go far enough to try selling the property.

“If it cannot be used for another purpose, we would like to take the building down,” Waukesha County Director of Public Works Allison Bussler said to the Business Journal. “We have actually had eight arrests in that building I believe in 2015. We’ve had vandals and other concerns there.”
Mary Emery, president of the Waukesha Preservation Alliance said the organization will oppose the demolition.
