People’s Park Expansion Gets Final Plan Approval

City planner says all who spoke at meeting supported the project, which includes rooftop dining.

The Plan Commission approved for an expansion to People’s Park, a popular bar and restaurant in downtown Waukesha that opened in December 2008.

People’s Park has been closed since February . The building is being gutted and a big expansion is planned to include dinning on the first and second floors, as well as the rooftop.

City Planner Doug Koehler said in an e-mail Thursday that all the public comments at the Plan Commission supported the expansion.

The Taylor brothers, Jim and Dan, who own People’s Park had previously considered an expansion but would have had to close the restaurant. The fire shut down the restaurant, so the owners decided to take advantage of the moment for the expansion.

People’s Park is expected to re-open in July and the expanded area in August. The expansion is dependent on the owners receiving tax credits.
