Rogers Active in Local Mental Health Conferences

Rogers Memorial Hospital is slated to participate in several conferences during the fall and winter. The staff’s goal at each conference is to further represent the hospital within the community while promoting effective treatment for those living with a mental health illness.

Members of Rogers’ medical staff will participate in the following conferences:

• Oct. 6 in Pewaukee – Jody A. Langford, M.D., and Jessica Hoberg, MSN, RN, CPNP – both with Rogers’ pediatric eating disorders program – will present “Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders: Current Triggers and Early Intervention Strategies” as part of the Mental Health in Schools Institute.
• Oct. 7 in Waukesha – Jerry Halverson, M.D., FAPA, medical director of FOCUS and Adult Services at Rogers’ Oconomowoc campus, will speak to the students and staff of Carroll University on the topic of mood disorders and the transition to adulthood.
• Oct. 8 in Pewaukee – David Jacobi, Ph.D., will present “Understanding & Treating Childhood Anxiety Disorders” from 9 to 11:30 a.m. as part of a school year series coordinated by Parents United at the Country Springs Hotel and Conference Center.
• Oct. 11-12 in Madison – Dr. Halverson will also participate in the Second Annual Update and Advances in Psychiatry, a continuing medical education conference.
• Oct.13 in Pewaukee – Dr. Jacobi will also speak at a free community presentation at Waukesha County Technical College from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by OCD Wisconsin, the 90-minute talk is part of International OCD Awareness Week. Dr. Jacobi will talk about obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and how early diagnosis and treatment are key to successful recovery.
• Oct. 20-22 in Waukesha – Michael M. Miller, M.D., FASAM, FAPA, medical director of the Herrington Recovery Center, will speak at the annual National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Conference.
• Oct. 28-29 in Wisconsin Dells – Dr. Miller, along with Deana Grall, certified therapeutic recreation specialist, and Sue McKenzie, M.A., director of Rogers InHealth, will lead workshops at this year’s Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services Training Conference, which attracts professionals, educators and consumers throughout the state. In addition, Rogers is a co-sponsor of this year’s conference, which has the theme of “Putting People First: Focusing on Strengths and Building Recovery.”
• Nov. 10-11 in Wisconsin Dells – McKenzie will also present a workshop on “Stigma & Self-Disclosure: Frameworks that Work!” at this year’s Children Come First Conference, which focuses on the needs of children and adolescents with a variety of mental health challenges. Rogers will also staff an exhibit throughout the conference.
• Dec. 3 in Wauwatosa – Dr. Miller will serve as a panel member during the Milwaukee chapter’s meeting of the Case Management Society of America (CMSA). The panel will discuss heroin issues in our communities from the perspective of law enforcement, paramedic providers, treatment specialists and a family’s journey.
