Waukesha HAWS Quarantines 24 Dogs Over Canine Brucellosis Concern
Officials at HAWS say they've quarantined 24 dogs over concerns they may have once been in contact with 2 dogs that were infected elsewhere.
WAUKESHA, WI -- Officials at the The Humane Animal Welfare Society say they have voluntarily separated 24 dogs from the general adoption population as a precautionary measure, due to a case of Canine Brucellosis found in Wisconsin.
HAWS officials said that two dogs came to Wisconsin from South Korea in February. The infected dogs were never housed as HAWS, but as a precaution, local officials have put their South Korean rescue dogs in quarantine as a precaution.
βIt is important to stress that none of the dogs at HAWS have tested positive for Brucellosis,β states HAWS Executive Director Lynn Olenik in a statement on Friday. βHAWS is enacting this separation protocol as a measure of high precaution in response to a low risk situation."
