Laramie County Community College's New Residence Hall Will Open For Spring Semester Of 2021

Cheyenne, Wyoming –Laramie County Community College’s newest residence hall won’t open this fall as originally planned, but the 357-bed facility will be ready for next year’s spring semester.

According to college officials, the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in several supply-chain and labor issues that collectively pushed the project past a completion point for fall.

“Rather than utilize the project’s contingency dollars on overtime to try and reach partial opening, the college determined that those dollars would be better spent by bringing back items that were originally removed to meet the budget,” said Dr. Melissa Stutz, vice president of student services at LCCC.

The college’s two existing residence halls will be operational for the fall, and planning is underway to determine any considerations for living arrangements, in order to follow social distancing protocols and ensure safety procedures are in place for students. Details of this plan will be included in Phase II of LCCC’s Return to Business Plan, which will be available this summer.

“It’s a bit disappointing that it won’t be ready for our incoming students, but it’s certainly the right call,” Stutz said. “This time will give us the opportunity to have an even better facility for our students to enjoy next spring.”

The new residence hall is funded by a $32.5 million low-interest loan from the State Lands and Investment Board. That loan was approved in the 2019 supplemental session, specifically to support residence hall projects on community college campuses.
