Officials Investigating Cause of Carport Fire Near Hayward
Fire crews were able to quickly contain the fire believed to have started in a car.

Officials are investigating the cause of a one-alarm fire this morning in Alameda County near Hayward, according to an Alameda County Fire Department battalion chief. Firefighters responded around 5:30 a.m. to a fire in the 21000 block of Ocean View Drive, according to a fire dispatcher.
The fire was extinguished within roughly 10 minutes, the dispatcher said. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to a carport outside of a four-unit apartment building, Battalion Chief Jim Call said. Call said the fire started in a car and had limited extension to the carport.
“The car was completely damaged,” Call said. “It won’t be driving ever again.” Call said the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office has been called to investigate the blaze. “That’s a pretty common practice,” Call said. “The cause is unknown so you need to explore all avenues.”
