MARYLAND — A Maryland girl was named one of the smartest kids in the world. A Starbucks worker donated their rewards points, helping a charity give away hundreds of sandwiches. And local hospitals were ranked among the nation's best.

Three sisters are pushing young women to get involved in construction and engineering, and National Guard soldiers came home. Speaking of veterans, a Naval Academy graduate is an astronaut on the space station.

Two students were honored for their achievements, and two businesses are opening.
