Athens teen indicted for murder in connection with 2024 shooting (rocketcitynow.com) — An Athens teenager has been indicted on murder and manslaughter charges in connection with a 2024 shooting at the Fifth Avenue apartments operated by the Athens Housing Authority. A Limestone County grand jury returned the indictment on September 17, and the 19-year-old suspect is being held without bond while awaiting his next court appearance.
   

2. Athens parents push for high school bus routes as school board weighs community survey (rocketcitynow.com) — Parents in Athens are pressing Athens City Schools to add bus routes for high school students, arguing long walks along busy roads are unsafe and disruptive. The district says it's open to expanding service, will survey families in October, and urgently needs more bus drivers to maintain and possibly grow routes.

With more than 30 years in education and a decorated coaching and administrative career, Moore will represent northeast Alabama in the statewide competition for Alabama Secondary Principal of the Year later this year.

Here's where Huntsville-area schools placed in the new 2027 Niche rankings (hvilleblast.com) — Several North Alabama schools earned top spots in Niche's 2027 rankings, including strong showings for Athens High School and Athens elementary schools like Brookhill and Julian Newman. For Athens families, the report highlights that local public schools received high grades alongside other Huntsville-area standouts, offering another data point when weighing school quality and district reputation.
